In 2011, God began to break our founding pastor, Ed Love's heart for the community of Ionia, MI. Along with a handful of other adventurous souls, who were desiring to impact their local community, the group began meeting, praying, and working toward the launch of a new faith community.
After engaging in a Bible study on John chapter four (the woman at the well story), Pastor Ed sensed that “The Well” was the perfect name for the new church. During the age of Jesus, wells were considered to be the hub of community activity; a place of relationship, conversation, and learning. This imagery seemed to be an inspiring metaphor for the vision of the community.
On October 6, 2011, The Well officially started Sunday worship gatherings in a humble daycare facility. God worked wonders and was already beginning to change lives and families. The small group quickly became a midsize group, and everyone knew that The Well needed to find a permanent home.
Shortly after the launching in the daycare facility, the members of the former First Baptist Church of Ionia saw what God was up to and felt led to join the work and give their facility to The Well. Everyone chipped in and helped renovate the beautiful old building. The first gathering in the new space was held on Dec. 23rd, 2012.
Since 2012, The Well has grown into a strong and healthy church family, with many outreach ministries and discipleship opportunities. We have seen over 100 lives give put their faith in Christ and be baptized, marriages have been restored, families have been healed, and the good news of Jesus is changing lives.
We continue to look ahead and trust that God is always up to something good!
